About me
About me:
As a grad student in philosophy, I read, write, teach, grade, and think philosophy for insane amounts of time most days. I?ve struggled with this. I am dedicated to my studies and to my teaching, and I spent my first two years of grad school without much of a life apart from them. But then one day I reevaluated my priorities and realized that, for the sake of my own happiness and well-being, I needed to make room for other things. Nowadays, I make time for what's important to me, even if it means taking on less or taking longer to finish a project. Last summer, I taught a class and worked as a research assistant. I?m going happily jobless this coming summer, and will do nothing but work on my own research at a pace that doesn?t drain the life out of me?and have fun. Given my career, in fact, I sometimes need to make an extra effort to do non-intellectual things. I love getting out into nature and just experiencing the sheer, unanalyzed movement of my body through the world. I work out frequently for similar reasons. Going to the gym is an important hobby for me because I don?t think one can really be alive unless one takes care of oneself as both a body and a mind. I try to follow the workouts at crossfit. com five days a week. Other hobbies include conversation with friends over beer or wine and a small amount of television or the occasional movie. I?m a decent cook when I have the time and also like going out to eat now and then. I find a lot of other things fun, and will give a lot of things at least one try.
