First, what we do not do

Online
Never send money. Not by bank transfer, gift card or cryptocurrency, whatever the story: a medical emergency, being stuck abroad, a ticket to come and visit, an investment tip. These are the most common scams on dating sites. Money sent this way is almost impossible to get back. Asking a member for money breaks our rules — report it.
Keep private details private. Your home or work address, your daily routine, your financial details. If you have children, do not share their names, ages or school.
Stay on [SITE_NAME] at first. People with bad intentions often push to move to another messenger or phone straight away. Take your time.
Be careful with long-distance contacts. Be wary of someone who always has a reason not to meet or not to talk on a video call, or who talks about a serious relationship before you have met.
Check their photos. A reverse image search shows whether the photos belong to someone else.
Protect your account. Use a strong password that you do not use anywhere else. We will never ask for your password by email. If someone does, report it.
Meeting in person
- Don't rush. A video call before the first meeting is a good way to check.
- Meet in a busy public place, and stay there the first few times. Not at your home or theirs.
- Tell a friend where you are going, who you are meeting and when you expect to be back.
- Get there and back on your own, so you can leave whenever you want.
- Know your limits with alcohol, and keep your drink and belongings with you.
- If you feel uncomfortable, leave. You do not owe anyone an explanation. Ask staff at the venue for help if you need it.
